Beginning April 1, 2026, the local sales and use tax rate in Richland will increase by 0.1% (one-tenth of one percent) to support transportation services.
The increase was adopted through the Richland Transportation Benefit District and replaces the district’s previous $20 annual vehicle registration fee. The change helps broaden funding for road maintenance and transportation improvements by spreading costs among residents, commuters, and visitors who make purchases in the city.
With the change, the total sales tax rate in Richland will be 8.8%, which includes local sales tax (2.30%) and state sales tax (6.50%).
Businesses must begin collecting the new rate on April 1 for all applicable retail sales and services. Individuals and businesses may also be subject to the updated use tax rate for items purchased without paying sales tax.
The updated rate applies to Location Code 0304. Businesses can verify rates and location codes using the Tax Rate Lookup Tool provided by the Washington State Department of Revenue.
